After Oral Surgery

Instruction Sheet Post Procedure

Following oral surgery, proper aftercare is an important part of the healing process and can help reduce discomfort, minimize complications, and support a smooth recovery. It is normal to experience some swelling, mild bleeding, and tenderness after treatment. Following your post-operative instructions carefully can help protect the surgical area and promote faster healing. Resting, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous activity during the first few days are often recommended to support recovery.

To help manage discomfort, take any prescribed or recommended medications as directed by your doctor. Applying ice packs during the first 24–48 hours may help reduce swelling and improve comfort. Patients should also avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, or disturbing the treatment area, as these activities can interfere with healing and increase the risk of complications. Eating soft foods and maintaining gentle oral hygiene practices can also help protect the surgical site while it heals.
